NVMe is definitely better than SATA as it uses the PCIe bus in place of the SATA bus to offer great bandwidth potential for storage devices. The current version offers up to 32 lanes and transfer data up to 64,000MBps, while for SATA it is 600MBps. The NVMe specification makes way for 65535 command queues with about 65535 commands per queue. On the contrary, SATA-based SSDs have a single queue with 32 commands per queue. Thus NVMe technology offers better performance, interoperability, and efficiency when compared to SATA. 

Is M.2 the same as PCIe? M.2 vs. PCIe?

PCIe is the storage interface, while M.2 is the physical form factor. The main differences between the two lie in the performance and the protocol supported by M.2 SSD. M.2 SSDs were made to accommodate both PCIe and SATA interfaces. While M.2 PCIe SSDs use a special controller to support the PCIe protocol, M.2 SATA SSDs use the same controller present on the SATA SSDs. An M.2 SSD usually supports one protocol, but a few of them can support both.              

Are SATA SSD slower than M 2? M.2 vs. SATA?

SATA is slower than NVMe. SSDs use either NVMe or SATA to communicate with the rest of the computer. M.2 is a type of form factor. You can get both SATA M.2 SSDs and NVMe M.2 SSDs. The manufacturers sometimes use the term M.2 SSD, which is actually NVMe drive, and SATA SSD, which means it has a 2.5-inch form factor SSD.

Is a 256GB SSD better than a 1TB hard drive?
