In case it is not, your fan might still run, but you will not be able to enjoy the fancy lights that turn up with an RGB fan.   2. Read all the instructions provided with the manual, even if you think you have understood everything there is to know about connecting your RGB fan.
  3. Usually, the motherboard manufacturers will mark the pins designated to connect your RGB fans. They are 3 elongated pins standing straight from the motherboard.
  4. Place your RGB fan pin on it and fix it tightly to avoid loose connections.
  5. Once the connections are done, place the fan in the case provided and ready your motherboard.

3 – Pin RGBs are also called DC fans and are generally cheaper compared to 4 – pin RGBs. These fans are controlled by voltage and are generally much simpler in functioning. However, the disadvantage is that they produce a lot of noise when running.

You can connect a 3 – Pin RGB fan to a 4 – Pin slot on the motherboard if that’s what was provided to you. But it is recommended that you only do it with 3 – Pin slots. Usually, the 3 – Pin connector is much smaller than the 4 – Pin connector while the design is almost the same. A 3 – Pin RGB connector has three square-shaped holes connected to the front and wires separately attached to each of the holes. The black wire is for ground, the red wire for power input, and finally, the yellow wire for speed sensor purposes. Always ensure that the power is turned off before removing or mounting your RGB cable onto your motherboard.

Steps To Connect A 4 – Pin RGB Fan To Your Motherboard

  1. Separate the 4 – Pin RGB from the packing and place it alongside the motherboard. Make sure that the product is not damaged.
  2. Take out the instructions manual and read all instructions carefully to ensure that you do not make any mistakes.
  3. Most motherboards come with labels that denote slots for RGBs. Look for these slots to put your 4 – Pin RGBs.
  4. Once identified, insert your fan’s connector onto the header present on the motherboard.
  5. Make sure that you press just enough to fix the joint and keep it steady and not too tight that you damage the joint altogether.

Unlike the 3 – Pin RGB fans, the 4 – Pin RGB Fans are called pulse width modulation fans. They are significantly more powerful since they come with a higher RMP rating. 4 – Pin RGBs are more widely accepted due to the greater control they provide to the user. They are generally less power-consuming and make much less noise than 3 – Pin RGBs.

In case your motherboard does not come with a header to connect your RGB fan, you will need to use an RGB fan with a 4 – dual pin connector and a power cable.

  1. Take the 4 – Pin dual connector and connect your RGB to it.
