How to Check PSU Voltage in Windows 10?


If your Windows 10 computer is restarting at random without posting any messages or errors on screen then it might be a power supply issue. You need to get a hold of your PSU voltage in BIOS or some other software available on Win 10 in order to check your voltage status.

When it comes to checking PSU voltage in windows 10, there’s more than one way to approach the issue. Let this guide walk you through the entire process.

The easiest way to find out how many watts a power supply unit has is to look at the box it came in when you bought it. Check the section of the PSU that says what it can do. You will see the power source’s maximum power.

How to Check PSU Voltage in Windows 10

Go to BIOS setup. Find the section involving “PC Health”, “PC Monitoring”, or “Health Status” and the like. Sometimes, you need to instead go to “Power Management Setup”, but regardless it’s easy enough to use trial-and-error to find what you’re looking for.

Anyway, “PC Health” should feature what your different voltages are on your Windows 10 machine. It shows the different voltages that you can cross-reference to ideal voltages that your power supply unit should have.

Checking PC Health for PSU Voltage

Go to PC Health or Monitoring or Power Management to get the PSU voltage page. For example, the page might list down things like VCore as 1.268V, DDR18V as 1.920V, +3.3V as 3.344V, +12V as 12.048V, and so forth.

PC Health also covers things like Current CPU Temperature, Current CPU Fan Speed, and Current System Fan Speed as wel as CPU Warning Temperature, CPU Fan Fail Warning, System Fan Fail Warning, and CPU Smart Fan Control.

Why Do You Need to Know What Power Supply You Got?

The power supply is an important part of any PC build and can affect its overall performance down the line. Power distribution allows every component to work at optimum operation. It’s responsible for sending power to all PC parts based on their power requirements.

It’s also the part of your PC responsible for changing AC voltage to low-voltage DC that computer parts could operate on. The PSU is a pivotal PC part, such that without it nothing on your computer works.

You need to know your PSU’s exact specs or if it’s even working properly currently to help determine if you have the best configuration or if your unit requires maintenance, repair, or replacement.

Check the PSU Physically

Aside from using your user manual for your PC or looking up information online, you can make sure your assembled PC has the optimal PSU by taking it apart (again) and checking what its specs are physically, with your own eyes.

You should already know what its specs are though if you were the one who put the PC together. Most people have to take apart pre-built PCs in order to know the voltage that their PSU has physically if they can’t look it up online or through the manual.

Or you can check it out through BIOS. You can also find the “ideal” wattage of your PSU next to its name and model number in most cases when you open up your PC. You can use that as reference to the actual voltage it’s outputting on your PC.
