Many a gaming or power laptop has the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB installed in them. However, is that GPU good enough to run first-person shooters (FPS games) like Fortnite at 60 FPS (frames per second) and beyond? It’s an older GPU, after all.
It was released back in 2016 and it’s 2022 now, so it’s 6 years old. So how many fps can a 1050 ti run fortnite? Let’s find out!
How Many FPS Can a 1050 Ti Run Fortnite?
Using the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB to play Fortnite is fine because it should net you a consistently high 106 frame rate. This result roots from a 1080p screen resolution and at high graphics. You can get better graphic cards than this for a true gaming PC but if you only have 1050 Ti, it will get the job done.
The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB can even comfortably run 1440p resolution games at ultra graphics level. You can also consider bumping up the resolution all the way to 4K but that reduces the frame rate to 71 FPS on medium settings and 48 on high settings.
Is a Laptop with a 1050 Ti a Gaming Laptop?
Strictly speaking, a 2022 gaming laptop has higher specs compared to what’s considered a gaming laptop back in 2016. A gaming laptop should come with 1060 minimum. 1050 Ti is underpowered in comparison.
Regardless, a power laptop with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB can comfortably run most AAA games, from Fortnite to the latest Doom game. However, it’s not the graphics card you use for peak resolution and peak gaming specs.
You’ll have to play at minimal 1080p settings for it to last you many years (about 3 years or so), which can include League of Legends, CS:GO, Overwatch, PUBG, DOTA2, and (of course) Fortnite.
The Recommended Resolution is Full HD
The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB from 2016 can comfortably run Fortnite at 1080p because it’s a Full HD era type of graphics card. You need 1060 and above if you want 4K Ultra High Graphics Level gaming. Besides which, Fortnite has a cartoony rather than hyper-realistic style to it.
It’s less like Mortal Kombat 11 or Tekken 7 and more like Splatoon and Legend of Zelda Wind Waker in terms of its presentation. You don’t need the extra number-crunching graphical power to render details like pores and cilia.
That’s not to say that graphical detail and fidelity isn’t required in more cartoony fare like Dragon Ball FighterZ, Guilty Gear Xrd, and so forth. You still need the impressive-for-2016 specs of one Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB for such games or games made back in 2016 and before.
Things to Remember
Fortnite frame rates shouldn’t concern you as much with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB graphics card. However, if you want specifics, it’s 106 FPS at 1080p (consistent) to 1440p (occasional drops), 71 FPS at 4K (medium settings), and 48 FPS at 4K (high settings).
Besides which, as long as you put the settings to medium (acceptable frame rate of 71) or high (below 60 or a 48 frame rate, which is more “cinematic” or closer to 24 FPS), you can still run Fortnite fine.
